A Sunny Day At The Beach!

This past Sunday we had the privilege of photographing the wonderful Leischner family on the beach. They had a great time and really got into the pictures (we have that effect on people). The boys especially enjoyed the shoot because they got to run around and be themselves. I got to collect a few cool looking rocks with them on the beach. This shoot reminded me of going to the beach with my family as a child. Like the boys in the photos I also used to comb the beach looking for fossils and oddly shaped rocks (my wife says I still do this). You know, with the weather warming up and the sun shining maybe its a good idea to take the family to the beach. Some of the best memories a child will have can be found on the sand. So pile into the family truckster, bring a Frisbee, football, and some hot dogs to grill, but don't forget the photographers. Your memories are just a click away. (Kevin Robert Hansen)

This past Saturday we had the opportunity to once again brave the elements. The couple we shot I had met for the first time. Sarah had met in college through classes her final year at Columbia College Chicago. While meeting them for the first time I felt as if I had known them for many years. Gerardo & Cynthia have been married for seven years. We truly had a great time with them. As a newly married man I felt encouraged and looking forward to the future with my own wife. If this shoot taught me anything then it was that love is brave, love is exciting, love is daring. And most of all like a captain guiding a ship. Love can handle all weather. Doesn't matter if its sun, rain or snow. - Kevin Robert Hansen

February 2010 Newsletter
Vol. 2, No. 2

Hello Everyone!

We hope this message finds you all doing well and that you survived February. Sarah and I have been sick with colds but are recovering well thanks to vitamin C, green tea, chicken soup and cough syrup. (Don't operate any motorized vehicles, bicycles, skateboards, shopping carts, stoves, blenders or anything that has wheels or an on button after drinking cough syrup.) What also helped was the kind words from our friends and fans. There is a debate as to who made who sick. If you would like the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth be sure to contact the most reliable source (Me). Sarah and I have spent February dreaming of warmer days, with vacations to our flat in London, walks on our private beach in Maui, visits with my uncle Mick Jagger and restoring my vintage 1957 Corvette... Okay you got me all that stuff was a lie, we are coming down with spring fever just like every one of you. Soon spring will be filled with great photographs, new fans and hopefully business from you. In the last newsletter I wrote that I had so far not written 2009 on any documents. I have to make a confession. Shortly after writing the newsletter I goofed and wrote 2009 on a document. My quest for status in the Guinness Book of World Records is now over. Looks like I will have to go back to making the worlds largest foil ball, that I started back in 1989 after watching Pee Wee's playhouse. To think my parents wondered if I had any hope as a child. We would like to thank everyone for their comments on us winning the "Best of 2009" from OneWed.com. This means a lot to us. It is great to win something. I never really won any awards in my life. No sports trophies for me. I pretty much stink at any sport that involves a ball. Hopefully we can have a repeat and win best of 2010. With your help of course. In preparation for the busy wedding season Sarah and I have been hitting the gym. Today I may have possibly burned off the calorie content of a potato chip according to the treadmill (Yeah me!!). We are also excited to let you know about all the new and exciting work that we've been doing since the last newsletter. In January we mentioned that Kevin Hansen (that's me) has recently, become part of the Sarah Anna Photography team! I am still helping out with all aspects of the business. Including writing this newsletter that you so much enjoy. We hope it uplifts you wherever you are reading it. Whether it is at work or home, hopefully not on your i-phone while your driving. As a photographer I am still getting used to the lingo. Often times Sarah will be remembering shoots and say "remember that couple we shot in the woods"? I have to stop and think "oh yeah with our cameras". Context is everything people. It just sounds so wrong. Although it does feel right to be able to capture peoples dreams and preserve their stories through our cameras. We know it means a lot to our fans that we take the time to do this. That's what fuels us to keep going. Hopefully we can bring joy to you and your family this spring. Be sure to check out some of our new work on www.sarahannaphotography.com. One of my many images was our feature image on our blog and facebook page! (The image was the heading of our December Newsletter if you remember).

Highlights:

* February started out with the wedding of Amanda Zoeller and Steve Howard. As you can imagine it was a cold day. That didn't stop us from getting some awesome pictures. Yes Sarah Anna Photography's creativity is not stopped by cold weather. We are instead inspired. Amanda and Steve's wedding was beautiful. They were joined by their many friends and family. Sarah and I also set up our photo booth which proved to be a success. With many people standing in line for it. You would have thought they were standing in line for concert tickets. Amanda and Steve had delicious cheese cakes at each of the tables for guests (Sorry I couldn't save any for you). Everyone had a blast and the bridal party really got into the pictures. We tend to have that effect on people. We know there are many more weddings ahead of us so we have not used up all of our energy. We met many more wonderful brides and grooms at a bridal expo in Rosemont, Illinois where we were there to raise the bar on great and creative photography. With spring around the corner we are confident we will meet more brides and be able to take more great pictures in the new season! We are already filling up especially our spring, summer, fall of 2010 and already starting to book for 2011! Contact us today to book your bridal consultation!

* This February Sarah and I went sledding. Well actually we wish we could have. Instead we had the privilege of photographing the lovely Huslander family as they sledded with their young son Jacob. You have really got to check out these pictures. It will really make you want winter to come back so you can go sledding. I mean think about it. When was the last time you went sledding as a family? I know its been awhile for me. Sometimes the simple things in life are the best. Afterwards you can sip on some hot cocoa next to the fire. If you don't have a fireplace then stop by a friends house that has one. Make sure you call ahead though.

* What does it mean when a bride does a "trash the dress session"? Well to find out then check out our site to see Patricia Gonzalez Mikicic. A "trash the dress" is also referred to as a "show off the dress session". So it doesn't mean you get really dirty and play football in it. Well unless that is what you want. Its an opportunity to take some glamours and fun shots with your wedding dress. Right now its very popular with brides - since on your wedding day you don't get much time for extra fun photographs in your fabulous dress. When else will you wear it again - why not drag out your special day! It is a great way to show off your personality and what makes you unique and special. At Patricia's shoot she displayed her own handiwork. Patricia is co-founder of "Oh My Floral". Its a business that makes flowers for brides and anyone else who has a love of flowers. Now let me tell you a secret. Now I'm not paid to say what I'm about to say. When you see "Oh My Florals" flowers you will say "Oh My". Patty is a highly talented lady who has a knack for making beautiful, creative and edgy flowers. Also Patty is an all around great person who is fun to meet and puts you completely at ease. We have already referred her services to some of our brides and look forward to working with her again in the future. You can check out and become a fan of "Oh My Floral"!

* Are you having trouble deciding what your wedding invites & RSVP cards, save the dates or thank you cards should look like? Well Sarah Anna Photography is here to the rescue! Just think of the Superman theme song in your head as I say this is you. To make your wedding plans even easier, (because lets face it YOU need a break with all this wedding planning stress) we have available personalized Wedding invites with RSVP cards, save the date cards and thank you cards. It makes sense to have your photographs on your invites, RSVP cards, save the dates and thank you cards. Many friends and family of the bride and groom have been impressed. Hello Everyone!

We hope this message finds you all doing well and that you survived January. Remember warmer months are ahead of us. Soon will be the season of backyard barbecues, walks on the beach, and of course weddings. This January has been the first year in my whole life that I have not written 2009 accidentally on any documents so far. Seems to be an accomplishment (Yeah me!). But this pales in comparison to the award Sarah Anna Photography received this year for our photographic talent. Keep reading the newsletter to find out what I'm talking about. Last month we mentioned that Kevin Hansen (thats me) has recently, become part of the Sarah Anna Photography team! My wife Sarah has given me the task, well maybe bribed me with a meal to take over writing the newsletter. It has been fun shooting with Sarah since our July marriage. I have always had a creative artistic eye, which I feel that I can now fully express with Sarah Anna Photography. The camera as an invention has always fascinated me. With a camera Sarah and I have been given the ability to preserve moments in time. To bring joy to new brides, families, and friends. Its as if a camera is our magic wand as we tell your story through pictures. Sarah and I truly believe that the people we take pictures of are more than just a face in a photograph. They are people with hopes and dreams, who want their story preserved for future generations. That is why we feel blessed to be able to tell your story. We are excited about what stories are yet to be told in this coming year, I know your also excited to see them. Sarah and I have been blessed with the fact that we have identical styles and ideas when shooting. I am excited to let you know about all the new and exciting work that I've been doing since the last newsletter. This month three beautiful couples lifestyle e-sessions (Engagement Session's) first Laura & Tony, second Jessica & Kyle and last yet still a work in progress is Vanessa & Scott! During Jessica & Kyle's e-session we stumbled in the woods upon an old school house, perfect for them since Jessica is a school teacher! Click on each couple to see more of each session!

Hello Everyone!

Still settling into married life after 74 days and Sarah Anna Photography is still growing - with time running away! Well I hope this message finds you all doing well yourselves. I am excited to let you know about all the new and exciting work that I've been doing since the last newsletter. You can always check out my website, which has been updated again (shhhhh...I'm trying to work on an even better site - well if I get a minute away from photographing that is), along with my blog, which is updated frequently to show all my most recent photography experiences! I would love to get comments and feedback there! Many of you have become fans of my Facebook page and blogspot; thanks so much for all your support there! You can also follow me on Twitter, which is updated automatically on Facebook and my blog almost daily...

Highlights:

A few family portraits with both sessions on the beach to start up our updates! First the Haplin family, then the Dzioba family! Thinking of family portraits - gets me to start thinking of the fall and winter holiday's, holiday letters, custom photo e-cards, cards, gifts for family and friends. I do have a limited number of holiday sessions still available, along with custom holiday cards and more (also great for photo thank you cards, save the dates...). With all of this I have started to pull out a few favorites from last winter, you can check them out on my blog!

I started the month off capturing Kristina and Omar's Wedding and Reception at the Hyatt in Milwaukee on Friday, September 4th. Jimmy Kim came along and assisted me! Of course you also won't want to miss the e-session we had with Kristina & Omar in Kenosha!

Then we also can't miss the gorgeous wedding Jimmy and I had just documented the week prior, Jennifer and Michael's intimate family garden Wedding and dinner Friday, August 28th at the American Club in Kohler, Wisconsin. Then Kevin and I had finished up this gala event at the Coast inMilwaukee for a huge party with friends and family on Saturday, August 29th!

One more wedding before the month is over - off Kevin and I went to capture Sheila and Victor's wedding Saturday, September 12th out in the Milwaukee area! I especially love the images of the bride and groom in the vintage car, leaving the beautiful Catholic church with the sunlight hitting everything just right!

Then I had a few minutes to edit and get things out before e-sessions started! We started up the following week Friday, September 18th with an e-session for Lindsay and Brandon, amazing I tell you! We set out to catch the light before it went down along the beach. They are just perfect - I can't wait to capture Lindsay and Brandon's Wedding in 2010!

With each session checking the weather to be sure the rain will hold out - of course I wouldn't mind to shoot a session in the rain personally! So next was right away Monday, September 21st e-session with Kari and Mark at the Apple Holler! The perfect fall spot and especially perfect for them! Again, I love, love, love the photographs - honestly once again too many to mention - just go check them all out!

Just last night had my last e-session for this week with Megan and Josh! Adorable couple, we shot at the Kenosha lake front in the area they got engaged, then off we went to the baseball field for a little bit of Chicago vs. Milwaukee fans who fell in love.

Bell Aiken Wedding

Jennifer & Michael's wedding was a hit this past weekend. They started off with a small family ceremony and intimate dinner reception at the American Club in Kohler, Wisconsin Friday, August 28, 2009. The ceremony was perfectly located in a private garden, the readings and music were beautiful, Jennifer's dress was gorgeous. You will see images of the groom Michael checking out his new bride Jennifer - so cute! Nexts was the big party at the Coast down town Milwaukee along the lake side. Friends and family came to join in for the big celebration - as you will see it was a hit!

Think Pink Photography was founded in October 2007 to support individuals and their families who have been touched by breast cancer. We are a charitable organization that serves two main purposes – celebrating life and supporting the cause.
Through our professional photographer network, we are helping breast cancer patients to celebrate life with charitable photography sessions. Individuals may choose to document their fight against the disease before or during treatment, or prefer to capture their victory by scheduling a session within 12 months after treatment is completed. Photographers world-wide are now available to donate time and talent to celebrate life and support the cause. There is no cost or obligation to the breast cancer patient. Clients participating in a Think Pink Session will receive a complimentary photo session, as well as a set of 10 small prints from the session. They will also receive a discount on any additional portraits they wish to purchase, although there is absolutely no purchase required at any time.
To support the cause, we have partnered with The Eric R. Beverly Family Foundation. All funds generated through donations and various fundraising efforts are paid directly to The Eric R. Beverly Family Foundation. As a 3-time breast cancer survivor, Danielle Beverly and her husband Eric joined together to form a foundation dedicated to promoting education, increasing awareness, and providing support and resources for families who have been touched by breast cancer.

Hello Everyone!

I'm now back after my wedding, honeymoon, moving...with a news update about Sarah Anna Photography! I hope this message finds you well. I am excited to let you know about all the new and exciting work that I've been doing since my return. You can always check out my website, which has been updated, along with my blog, which is updated frequently to show all my most recent photography experiences! Highlights:
First I must share with you our own Wedding Website! We had a blast seeing everyone at our wedding July 11, 2009, the location and weather were perfect! Of course I had many photographers shooting, along with artists...we are still working to get everything up online. Many of the images are posted on my personal facebook page - which you are free to add me as a friend if not already!
The past months have been a busy and exciting time, as always with the beginning of wedding season. With Wade & Erin's wedding just prior to our wedding June 6, 2009, we had a fabulous time shooting there engagement portraits in Milwaukee a few months back. They had a beautiful outdoor wedding, with a ice cream reception! Of course it rained during the ceremony and just after, it was freezing cold - yet the show must go on! Still we were able to capture some amazing, gorgeous images before the day was over! I hope you will enjoy seeing the beautiful portraits of Erin & Wade, if you would like to see more of the entire day!
I was also able to photograph the Mantasoot's preganancy portraits we had an amazing time - I love these images! Marc & Bridget took me to the most amazing location for these gorgeous, romantic landscape portraits. She has now given birth to a very handsome little guy!
Of course the family of three generations - one of the three coming from as far as Gallatin Gateway, MT! It was beautiful, the weather was perfect - we captured the family along the lakefront in Racine, WI and with the Racine lighthouse as a gorgeous backdrop. The children enjoyed skipping rocks between portraits and I captured the formal and informal moments of our session!
I am also excited about the images I took of Reanna Steven's second birthday - a little girl and her balloons! Very moody, artsy images that are also simple taken along the lakefront in Kenosha, WI. I photographed her with the Studio Hasselblad Camera (old school color film!) and digital as well. Hope you will enjoy!
Most recently I had the wonderful opportunity to capture Justeen & Joe's engagement session in and around Kenosha, County's farm landscape! We had a blast although we did have to dodge the bugs, our favorites at the end as the images just kept getting better and better as the session continued. Joe's little girl is just a perfect doll, the puppy in the family shots are just adorable!

today as i follow my fellow photographers it was mrs sarah roads who reminded me how wonderful it is to be a photographer. well right now i am reminded each day as my new husband waits, wonders and prays about his own job. yet with each prayer for wisdom as for what step he should take...he is always very thankful and grateful for the opportunity that i am finally being given to do what i love. to have the opportunity to capture and paint with light, to capture the feeling and emotion of the moment a person or couple is sharing in... this is a very rare and wonderful gift i have been given. i can't begin to use words to express how thankful i am. although the days never seem long enough, i at least love all that i get to do each day - i am oh so very blessed.

I am a big fan of engagement photos, they are usually included for FREE in my Wedding photography packages (Value $300). Engagement photos are so important for many reasons.

They help you become more comfortable in front of the camera: The more times you are photographed, the more at ease you will be. The best photos are when people are comfortable, happy and authentic. For all of those people who hate “posing” for photos or think they aren’t photogenic, a professional shoot can be completely different. I'm not looking for you to pose, I want to capture you in the moment and interacting with your partner. When you take a couple hundred photos with a pro you are likely to get at least a few good ones.

An engagement photoshoot builds a bond with the photographer: You will spend a good portion of your wedding day with your photographer, and this is a great opportunity to get to know how you work best together.

See how you photograph with makeup: While it isn’t necessary to wear the exact same makeup as you will on your wedding day, you can get a sense of how much the camera diffuses makeup. I recommend putting on more blush than you normally would, go for a slightly brighter lip and apply a thicker, darker eyeliner (on top lash line). Since the makeup is just for a photo shoot you don’t need to worry about what it looks like in real life. I guarantee you will be amazed how little makeup reads in photos. Erin is not one to normally wear make-up yet, we did put some light make-up on her to help her not look washed out in the photographs.

You get to have fun with your honey: Wedding day photos are done on a tight schedule, in confining clothing, and with a lot of people watching you. Engagement photos are just about the two of you enjoying each other and showing why you fell in love in the first place. Make it a fun part of preparation! Although, I do also recommend that if you or your family don't object you consider taking your bridal and couple portraits prior to your guest arriving on your big day. It lets you see each other before everyone else does. You will be at your freshest, most perfect for your photographs. Later between the wedding and reception you will have people watching you, feel stressed, rushed, less focused on each other - this is when your photographs look more unnatural and more posed. Another way to enjoy focusing on each other is to take day after or after the honeymoon taking the show off the dress photographs. These are all about the two of you and well it is all about you!

We will be taking photographs before hand and then later taking more show off the dress photographs for our wedding this July 11, 2009. Knowing that we will be taking photographs more then one time for this special occasion helps me to not be so stressed about the big day! With that I hope that this shows in all of my photographs!
